Assembly admits regional associations

“Today’s decision in Düsseldorf by the delegates to the Council Assembly to grant membership to three regional associations, the

  • Jüdische Gemeinschaft of Schleswig-Holstein,
  • Landesverband Jüdische Gemeinden in Schleswig-Holstein, and
  • Landesverband der israelitischen Kultusgemeinden in Lower Saxony,

is a further striking demonstration of the way the Council of Jews aspires to speak with one voice on behalf of the political interests of all Jews in Germany, regardless of their religious denomination“, Council of Jews President Paul Spiegel observed with satisfaction.

The three regional groupings were admitted to the ranks of the Council of Jews by a large majority at the annual Council Assembly meeting. The Council of Jews now unites 23 regional associations and large communities with altogether more than 105,000 members.

“Today’s vote is a positive signal and shows that German Judaism is on the right religious and cultural road in the 21st century”,
Paul Spiegel confirmed.
