Immediate resignation of Berlin Community Chairman elicits regret

Paul Spiegel, President of the Central Council of Jews, expressed his regrets upon learning that Albert Meyer had resigned his post as Chairman of the Jewish Community in Berlin. “I regret the decision taken by my friend and colleague Albert Meyer very much, but I can certainly understand it”, said Paul Spiegel in his initial response.

Votes of no confidence, court proceedings between members of the Board and vetoed decisions had created insurmountable differences within the leadership of the Community. Paul Spiegel spoke of his deep concern about the present state of the leadership and its immediate future.
