Central Council's Vice-President: Anti-Semitism is widespread among Muslim immigrants

Munich/Frankfurt – The Vice-President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Dieter Graumann, has warned of the danger of growing anti-Semitism among Muslim immigrants. He told the Focus magazine that the level of anti-Semitism was "alarmingly high", particularly among youths of Arab descent. "This problem cannot be dodged or pushed away," he said. Graumann stressed that in order to stem anti-Semitism among Muslims greater efforts were necessary, "above all on the part of the Muslim communities themselves". He said that although representatives of these communities officially denounced anti-Semitism they still did far too little to combat it within their own ranks. "If they showed more commitment, then the Muslim organisations would considerably gain in credibility," he said. (22.02.2010)
