Vocational school renamed in honour of Paul Spiegel

Warendorf – The vocational school Berufskolleg Warendorf has been renamed Paul-Spiegel-Berufskolleg in honour of Paul Spiegel, former President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and honorary citizen of the town of Warendorf, who died in April 2006. His name stood for openness and tolerance, it was said at a ceremony marking the renaming and the 75th birthday of the school. The ceremony was also attended by members of Spiegel's family. According to a report in the Westfälische Nachrichten newspaper, they welcomed the renaming of the school. "We are pleased to give our consent to this renaming and hope that critical engagement with the past will become an integral part of this school's tradition." (31.10.2009)
