No school on non-Christian holidays

Berlin – The Central Council of Jews in Germany has expressed its support for the proposal by the President of the Turkish Community in Germany , Kenan Kolat, to give children a day off on a Muslim holiday. "That would be a very nice signal," told the Central Council's Secretary General, Stephan J. Kramer, the newspaper Die Welt. He also suggested to add a Jewish festival to the list of school holidays arguing that this would be a demonstration of society's respect and tolerance towards another religion. The Central Council of Muslims and representatives of the Christian Churches rejected the proposal. (14.10.2009)
