Central Council of Jews in Germany demands immediate release of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit

On 25th June 2009, it will be the 3rd anniversary of the kidnapping of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit by members of the Palestinian terrorist organisation Hamas. To this day, he is being held hostage in an unknown place. His suffering and the suffering of his family, friends and comrades is barely imaginable.

On this sad anniversary, a human chain will be formed around the Berlaymont building in Brussels housing the headquarters of the European Commission in order to lend weight to the call for the release of Gilad Shalit and to draw attention to his fate. This event is supported by the President of the Comité de Coordination des Organisations Juives de Belgique (CCOJB), Joël Rubinfeld, the European Jewish Congress and the Central Council of Jews in Germany.

The kidnapping of Gilad Shalit shows the utter inhumanity of Hamas terrorists supported by Iran. During Gilad Shalit’s long captivity, the terrorist Hamas has provided almost no proofs that he is still alive. The terrorists denied the Red Cross access to the wounded soldier, in total violation of the principles of the Geneva Convention. On 14th December 2008, Hamas held a parade in Gaza during which it publicly mocked Gilad Shalit and his family in an intolerable way.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany demands the immediate release of Gilad Shalit and calls on people in Germany and around the world to demonstrate that Gilad Shalit has not been forgotten and that the international community firmly supports the call for his immediate release. We invite you to join our efforts to return Gilad Shalit to his family!
