Central Council criticises Amazon's "complicity with fascists"

Düsseldorf/Berlin – The Central Council of Jews in Germany has expressed its indignation at the business partnership between the on-line retailer Amazon and the far-right National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD). In an interview to Handelsblatt.com, the Vice-President of the Central Council, Dieter Graumann, said Amazon had to stop its cooperation with the NPD immediately and to take unequivocal steps. Amazon has come under criticism after it became known that an NPD web site was participating in Amazon's Associates Programme that enables participants to earn money by linking to Amazon products and services. Graumann said Amazon should be thoroughly ashamed of its business relations with the NPD. He argued that the business partnership inevitably meant a "de-facto political complicity with the fascists" because the neo-Nazis were putting the extra "Amazon euros" directly into political agitation and aggressive far-right propaganda. Graumann said he assumed that the matter was an oversight on part of Amazon. "However, this error must be corrected immediately. No self-respecting business should cooperate or collaborate with fascists." (05.06.2009)
