“A successful state”

Charlotte Knobloch on the 60th anniversary of the Federal Republic of Germany

Berlin – Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, has congratulated the Federal Republic of Germany on the 60th anniversary of its establishment. "Today, Germany is a solid democracy and a state that recognises its historical responsibility," she said in an interview to the Jüdische Allgemeine newspaper. Knobloch said Germans deserved to be congratulated on their many achievements considering the fact that the country had been "literally a heap of rubble" in the beginning. According to Knobloch, the immigration of Jews from the former Soviet Union that was made possible by the former Federal Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, and the former President of the Central Council, Heinz Galinski, has led to a "renaissance" of Jewish communities. "We have to do everything to ensure that this success continues in the future," said Knobloch.
