Topping out ceremony for synagogue in Schwerin

Schwerin – On 14 August, the Jewish Community of Schwerin celebrated the topping out of its new synagogue. The building is being constructed largely on the foundations of its predecessor from 1773 which was destroyed on 9 November 1938, during the Kristallnacht pogrom, and later pulled down. T he regional association of Jewish communities of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has communicated to the news agency Evangelischer Pressedienst that the celebration of the completion of structural works, which will be attended by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Minister of Education, Henry Tesch (CDU) , is planned for 29 August. The official inauguration of the synagogue will take place in the presence of the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany , Charlotte Knobloch, on 3 December. (15.08.2008)
