President of the University for Jewish Studies leaves his office

Heidelberg – Professor Dr. Alfred Bodenheimer will step down as President and resign his professorship in Heidelberg at the end of August after three years at the head of the Heidelberg University for Jewish Studies (Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg - HfJS). He will move to the University of Basel where he has held a part-time professorship and where he will soon become a full-time professor. According to the HfJS, Bodenheimer was obliged to decide between his two professorships due to changes in the Swiss higher education regulations and chose Basel for personal reasons. However, he will continue to work in Heidelberg as the director of the Likrat youth project and the founding director of the new Centre for Intercultural Communication affiliated to the HfJS. In the meantime, Professor Dr. Johannes Heil, Vice-President of the University for Jewish Studies since 2006, will become provisional president of this institution funded by the Central Council of Jews in Germany .
