Anti-Semitism is also a middle-class phenomenon

Berlin – Stephan J. Kramer, Secretary General of the Central Council of Jews in Germany , has demanded the creation of the post of a Federal Commissioner for Fighting Anti-Semitism. Speaking at a public hearing of the Committee for the Interior of the German Bundestag in Berlin , Kramer warned against growing anti-Semitism. He said that anti-Semitic sentiments were on the rise not only among those on the margins of society but also among middle classes. Kramer was one of ten experts invited by the Committee to give their opinion on the problem of anti-Semitism and to discuss the possibilities of combating it. The head of the Berlin office of the American Jewish Committee, Deirdre Berger, has also come out in favour of the establishment of a Federal Commissioner for Fighting Anti-Semitism. (17.06.2008)
