Speyer gets a new synagogue

Speyer – 70 years after the destruction of the previous synagogue, a new Jewish house of prayer will be build in the city of Speyer . "Building work will begin soon," said Kurt Beck, Prime-Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, according to his office. The construction costs will amount to approximately €2.5 million. €750,000 will come from the Jewish Community of Speyer. The rest of the sum will be contributed in equal parts by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the city of Speyer . The new Community Centre will be built on the site of the no longer used St. Guido Stifts Church which the city of Speyer is going to take over in exchange for another site in the city in order to transfer it to the Jewish Community.
